At CrossFit Ballina, there are no joining fees. Memberships run on a month by month basis – we want you to come and train, enjoy your membership, and get the results you are looking for. We don’t tie you into contracts as we believe what we offer is worth every cent you’re investing and that you will see the value it adds to your life. We offer much more than any conventional gym and feel that our coaches, facility, community and training methods will keep you coming back for more.
Sessions are run in groups of between 6 – 20 people and last for an hour. During each class, one of your expert coaches will run you through mobility drills, a skills-based warm-up, the Workout of the Day (WOD), and Post-workout recovery techniques. All movements are explained and time is spent learning/refining these skills. The group performs the workout together, creating a tremendous feeling of camaraderie and community. Workouts are also universally scalable, meaning seniors, sports professionals and people that have never exercised before can all be working out alongside each other while still seeing amazing results. These workouts will help you reach your fitness goals effectively and efficiently and we promise that coming into the gym will never feel like a chore again! The best part is that you will also make amazing friends along the way!
You should CrossFit because it is a long term sustainable solution to fitness. Have you ever seen someone who can’t get out of a chair, or gets breathless walking up stairs, or can’t walk down the street without help? It is our belief that many of the ailments we see in old age are directly caused by a loss of functional fitness and/or poor nutrition. By training our bodies using every day movements with a wide variety of tools we firmly believe out athletes can lead productive lives regardless of age.
For those who compete in sports; functional exercises and skills transfer directly to the sporting area and lead to an increase in strength, speed, agility and flexibility among other benefits.
Apart from rowers we don’t use any. Machines often force your body to move in unnatural ways and can put unacceptable stresses on your joints. We primarily utilize functional movements which move your joints through their natural range and have a better carry over into life and sport. We don’t use machines…..we build them.
Yes, we have 2 changing rooms, 2 showers and an accessible toilet.
Anything that’s comfortable and allows you to move freely. Boardies, shorts, 3 quarter length pants, joggers, t-shirts, jumpers, superman capes etc.

Because CrossFit is a long term sustainable solution to fitness and the results are second to none. You can’t compare the results of 3 months at a gym with 3 months of CrossFit. The CrossFitter will be fitter, faster, more powerful and leaner. More importantly – the CrossFitter will probably still be training (while there is almost an 80% chance that the member at the traditional gym is no longer regularly using their membership). We provide skilled coaching, support, the appropriate tools and advice to keep you motivated and working towards your goals.

The average gym membership provides you with a standard, boring, repetitive program and no support. If you wanted to pay for a personal trainer at a regular gym then you would be paying at a very minimum $50 for a one hour session (on top of your regular membership fee). This is far more expensive than an entire week of classes at CrossFit Ballina. The value for money speaks for itself.

It takes years of specific, dedicated training to pile on that much muscle. CrossFit will not make you big and bulky – but it will make you strong. This is usually a question asked by women – the female body is not designed to react that way to heavy weights. Put out of your head any pictures of female body builders – these ladies tend to look masculine because they train and ‘supplement’ in a way designed to increase muscle size. We don’t do either of these.
We run, bike, swim, row, jump ropes, do body weight movements, and lift weights. Most mainstream gyms and health clubs will program clients a standard workout comprising of isolation movements and extended aerobic sessions. This routine is repetitive, boring, long, and ineffective (as reflected by the extremely high dropout rates at traditional gyms!).
At CrossFit Ballina we use compound, functional movements and short, high intensity sessions interspersed with longer, less intense duration efforts to achieve results. These movements and intensity levels have been scientifically proven to be noticeably more effective at achieving desired fitness results. Sadly, most conventional gyms still embrace the old, much less effective methods of training and many gym goers remain unmotivated and rarely use their memberships.

YES! The movements and intensity offered by CrossFit demand more physically than traditional gym routines and therefore you will burn significantly more energy in a shorter time period. Most exercise programs paired with a healthy diet will help you become leaner, but the goal of CrossFit is much more involved. Not only will you lose weight but you will decrease your body fat and increase your lean body mass. Our goal is to help you be the healthiest and happiest version of you.
The beauty of CrossFit is that it can be scaled to meet the abilities of anyone. We modify our workouts in a way that will allow YOU to see amazing results. The workout-of-the-day (WOD) usually lasts 10-20 minutes, but can be as short as 5 minutes or last over 30 minutes. You never know what you are going to get! All of CrossFit’s workouts are based on functional movements. These are the core movements of life that are found everywhere and are built naturally into our DNA.
